Today I will be out of the classroom.

You will be given a blank political map of Canada and Central America.  You will need to correctly label both maps with Province, Country, and Capital.  You will have a quiz on this very soon.

After you have done that, you will go to the media center to continue working on your PING Projects for the rest of the class period.

Today we will be watching a movie called Devil's Miner.  As you view the film, you are to complete an online form that answers questions about the film.

You will be evaluated on your effort as well as your intellect and understanding!


If there is time left, we will continue our study of Agriculture and begin with a Ted Talks video on food.

Movie day!  Today we are going to begin a movie about a pilgrimage in Spain.  It called The Way and it is about a trek on the Camino de Santiago.

As we watch, I'd like you to consider the following questions and answer them in the comment section:

At the beginning, Daniel told his dad, "you don't choose a life...you live one."  What are the lessons that Tom learned from Daniel about the world and about life in general as he walked the Camino?

How did walking the Camino change Tom?

What did the other "pellegrinos" think about Tom in the early part of the journey?  And then later on?

Pick A Ping Project
This will be a project that will be completed in various phases throughout the semester.  Each student is to select a develoPING nation in which they will do research on and become very familiar with before the semester is over.  As we continue through the course curriculum, students will be completing various assignments by analyzing their respective country in relation to the topic that we are covering in class.  The file is located below.  Each student is to produce a portfolio of a country that includes a table of contents.  I will announce the due dates for the different assignments.

Monday 1-26-15

Today we will be starting CNN Student News.  It is my understanding that Geography students need to have a good understanding of current events.  They will cover various topics from around to world that I hope will lead to some discussion of topics that we have covered in class.

We will get into Chapter 1 with some handouts that cover the basics of Thinking Geographically.

We will go to the media center to complete a Geographic profile of a certain part of the world using the 5 themes of geography.
